Across the country, two pubs a day are closing — but here, we have the power to create a different story.  Village pubs are central to community life and the St Dunstan is no different. Currently scheduled to close on 31 August 2025

we have launched a community buyout giving residents, local businesses and the wider community the opportunity to collectively own the pub in a way that puts people before profits and keeps the pub as a community space with a long future ahead of it.

Rest assured, we are not saving a failing business.

The current owners are simply relocating.

The pub is profitable.

Together, we can own this pub, secure its future, and make it a vibrant, welcoming hub for everyone to enjoy.

This is more than just saving a pub — it’s about building something positive, lasting, and owned by the people who care most: You, the community.

Save it. Own it. Enjoy it.

OUR AIM

We believe The St Dunstan is far more than just a pub — it’s a vital part of our village’s future.

Our aim is to bring the pub into community ownership, protecting it from closure or redevelopment, and securing its place at the heart of village life for generations to come.  To do this, we are proposing to form a group called a Community Benefit Society (CBS). A CBS is an organisation that is registered with the Financial Conduct Authority and is a mutual organisation operating for the benefit of the community rather than just for private profit. Key advantages are:

  • The Society’s purpose is to benefit the community
  • It will be owned and controlled by the members who can have a say in the decision making moving forward
  • It can apply for money from external sources, such as grants

Now is the time to get involved. Sufficient investment is required from the community to enable the St Dunstan to remain open. Pledge to buy shares. Each share will be £250. You can buy one or more shares or even buy a share as a group or family. We will also be starting crowdfunding in the near future.

Once secured, we will appoint a tenant who not only runs a great pub but who shares our vision of it as a welcoming, inclusive space that serves the whole community.

We want The St Dunstan to thrive as a hub for connection, culture, and wellbeing — hosting local groups, activities, and events that bring people together and strengthen village life.

By owning the pub together, we protect it together — for today, for tomorrow, and for the future of our village.
